Renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia is raising fears of a wider conflict.
Ethiopian government forces and allied militias say they have captured Alamata, a strategic town roughly 120 kilometers south of Tigray's capital, Mekelle. The development follows a major escalation involving Tigrayan forces and fighting extending into neighboring areas.
The renewed violence is putting additional pressure on the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement, which ended the previous devastating war.
The latest escalation is also creating new humanitarian concerns as civilians flee areas affected by the fighting.
AfroQast will continue following developments from Ethiopia.
